<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">Google announced a new software update for Google TV aimed at reaching four goals: keeping things simple, making it easier to find something worth watching, making YouTube better on TV, and bringing more apps to TV.<br /><br />“We look forward to announcing more hardware and chipset partnerships in the months ahead and shipping new devices at new price points in 2012,” a Google spokesperson tells WebProNews.<br /><br />“The initial version of Google TV wasn’t perfect, but launching it gave us the opportunity to learn. These are still early days, and we’re working hard to move forward with each update,” Google says in a blog post discussing the new update.<br /><br />“We also worked to put in place some fundamental components that will make more frequent and more powerful software updates a reality,” the company says. “We know it will take time to get it right — this is a marathon, not a sprint — and with each update, we take another step forward.”<br /><br />The update itself comes with a simpler interface and a customizable home screen (pictured above) designed to let users get to their favorite content more quickly. There are also shortcuts within “all apps,” like with Android.<br /><br />There are search improvements for both live TV and apps like Netflix, YouTube, HBO GO, etc. Along with that, there’s an app called “TV & Movies” that lets you browse through as many as 80,000 movies and TV episodes across cable/satellite and web services.<br /><br />There have been various reports about upcoming YouTube channels to be more TV-friendly, and it looks like that is a part of this update too. “We’re launching a new YouTube experience specifically built for Google TV,” Google says in the blog post. “It is now fast and easy to get to your favorite HD-quality YouTube entertainment. And we’ve integrated YouTube more closely with Google TV search, so that you can turn virtually any topic – mountain biking, cooking, etc. – into a channel.”<br /><br />On the apps front, Google is now letting Android developers bring existing mobile apps or entirely new apps to Google TV. Google started this in association with the UK’s Citizen’s Advice Bureau.<br /><br />Privacy policies and terms of service can often be long, complex and legalistic. Goal of the Good To Know campaign is to provide people with practical guidance, like how to select a safe password or keep their online accounts secure.<br /><br />The new Good to Know website builds on the commitment to explaining things in simple language. The in-depth resources are still there, but google hope a one-stop-shop resource will make this information more accessible for everyone.<br /><br /><b style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Good to Know contains tips to:</b><br /><br />    * Stay safe online: Advice for staying more secure on the web and an overview of some of the security tools that Google offers.<br />    * Your data on the web and how it makes websites more useful: An overview of ways that websites can get to know your preferences and how this makes them more useful for you.<br />    *<br />      Your data on Google and how it makes Google services more useful: This section explains what information you share with Google when you use our products and services and how we use it to make your experience better.<br />    * Manage your data and what you share with websites and Google: Guidance on how you can manage the data you share online, both across the web and on Google services.<br /><br />Five tips for online safety:<br /><br />   1. Pick a strong password. One idea you can try is to choose a line from your favourite song, film or play, like “To be or not to be, that is the question”. Then use numbers, symbols and letters to recreate it: “2bon2btitq” is a password with quadrillions of variations. The more unusual the phrase you choose the better.<br />   2. Never reply to suspicious e-mails with your personal or financial information, and never enter your password after following a link from an e-mail that you don’t trust.<br />   3. Look for ‘https‘ and a padlock to check that a site is secure. When you go into a branch of your bank, you recognise the official staff by their name, their uniforms and the services they offer you. Having this level of reassurance shouldn’t be any different for online banking or other sensitive services.<br />   4. Always sign out and shut down your browser. Ever gone out for the day and left your front door wide open? Exactly. The same principle applies when you leave yourself signed in to online accounts on the computers you use.<br />   5. Use two-step verification for accounts that offer it, like Google and Facebook. Two-step verification adds an extra layer of security to your account by requiring you to have access to your phone – as well as your username and password – when you sign in. Communication is key:</b>  This is pretty much a well-known fact but the level the Ferrari team takes this to is almost unheard of.  Apparently real-time Telemetry is shared between the car and the Ferrari Garage in the pit lane and between the factory in Maranello. Now how does this happen? This happens via Controller Area Network (CAN) lines and Ethernet lines.  The CAN lines are connected to RF arrays, which are in turn connected to a series of antennae placed throughout the circuit enabling wireless real-time telemetry to the garage. From here, the engineers can change the programme parameters of the car.  For the link up between the track server and Maranello, Ferrari uses Multiprotocol Label Switching Network (MPLS), which enables very high data, transfer speeds of upto 6 MegaBits/ second. In fact, the guys in Maranello even have access to the communication between the drivers and the pit-lane engineers.<br />By the way, CAN is an automotive protocol which is even used in our regular vehicles. Research and Development Coupled with Innovation:</b> Ever since 2008, the FIA has brought about stringent Electronic Control Unit protocols, where all performance related enhancements remain constant for all constructors, and only car management ECUs can be custom built by the constructors. This has resulted in a situation where some of the richer constructors like Ferrari do not gain performance advantages due to their financial might where their car development budgets could sky rocket, but this situation does leave minimal wiggle room for constructors to innovate on F1 technologies. According to Beneventi, this is not an entirely bad thing: while it does slash budgets, it also forces the team to innovate on different technologies. For instance, an F1 car is fitted with an Apotation Meter, which is basically a sensor that helps the engineers monitor the positioning of various components inside the car. <br />With the new rules, Ferrari makes its F1 cars on almost 1/4th of the budget that it used to, which led the team to develop a brand new technology from scratch for the Apotation Meter as there previous technology would not fit in the budget. In spite of the new budgetary restrictions, Beneventi mentions the newer generation Ferrari F1 cars are equipped with far more sophisticated gadgetry than their predecessors, which were developed on higher budgets.<br /><br /><br /><br /><b style="color: lime; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Some Key Technical Terms:</b><br /><br /><b>MPLS Network:</b> <b>Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)</b> is a mechanism in high-performance telecommunications networks that directs data from one network node to the next based on shortpath labels rather than long network addresses, avoiding complex lookups in a routing table.<br /><br /><b>Controller Area Network:</b> <b>Controller-area network (CAN or CAN-bus)</b> is a vehicle bus standard designed to allow micro-controllers and devices to communicate with each other within a vehicle without a host computer.<br /><br /><b>Wind Tunnel:</b> A wind tunnel is a research tool used in aerodynamic research to study the effects of air moving past solid objects. <div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">South Korea's Samsung Electronics said its third-quarter net profit fell 23 percent year-on-year, but analysts were buoyed as the firm overtook key rival Apple in the lucrative smartphone market.<br /><br />Samsung, the world's biggest technology firm in terms of revenue, on Friday said net profit for July to September fell to 3.442 trillion won ($3.086 billion) from 4.455 trillion a year earlier, mainly due to weaker flat-panel screen sales as a global economic slowdown took hold.<br /><br />The world's largest maker of memory chips and flat-screen displays had recorded a higher net profit of 3.506 trillion won in the second quarter.<br /><br />Third-quarter operating profit was 4.252 trillion won, down 12.6 percent, and revenue was 41.273 trillion, up 2.6 percent from a year earlier, it said.<br /><br />Those figures were in line with the firm's earnings guidance issued earlier this month.<br /><br />The company said its telecoms businesses achieved record quarterly sales of 14.9 trillion won, up 37 percent from the previous year, with growth mainly driven by strong sales of Galaxy smartphones.<br /><br />Operating profit for the businesses -- which include mobile sales and telecommunication systems -- also hit a record 2.52 trillion won.<br /><br />Samsung vice president Robert Yi said in a statement the company achieved a solid quarterly performance despite the slowdown in developed markets, thanks partly to strong smartphone sales.<br /><br />Samsung Electronics overtook its main rival Apple in the third quarter to become the world's largest seller of smartphones, according to data released Friday by market research firm Strategy Analytics.<br /><br />Samsung sold 27.8 million smartphones while Apple shipped 17.1 million and Finland's Nokia sold 16.8 million, it said.<br /><br />The Korean firm's share of the smartphone market rose to 23.8 percent in the third quarter from 9.3 percent a year earlier, while Apple's market share fell to 14.6 percent from 17.4 percent, the research firm said in a statement.<br /><br />Nokia saw its share fall drastically to 14.4 percent from 32.7 percent.<br /><br />Strategy Analytics said Apple's growth during the third quarter was affected by consumers and operators awaiting the launch of the new iPhone 4S, volatile economic conditions and tougher competition from Samsung's Galaxy S2 model.<br /><br />Samsung said it expects sales of mobile devices to stay strong and flat-panel TV shipments to rise in the fourth quarter.<br /><br />But Yi cautioned that, in light of global economic uncertainty, "we cannot rule out the possibility of demand growth slowing compared to previous years."<br /><br />IBK Securities analyst Nam Tae-Hyun said however that fourth-quarter earnings are expected to be comparable to the third quarter, despite a seasonal spending increase including higher marketing costs.<br /><br />Smartphone sales would continue to lead the way and contributions from the display and chipmaking businesses would likely grow as they come off a bottom, he added.<br /><br />"Samsung's earnings tend to be weaker in the fourth quarter but this time that will not be the case," Nam said. Nokia World Launched flexible OLED display

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">After Samsung’s flexible displays, Nokia has showcased their new ‘Nokia kinetic device’, which is a phone with a flexible OLED display.  It comes with a large display that can be bent from either the centre of the screen or around the corners. The phone uses this bend feature to control the user interface on the screen. So, simply bending it from the centre will help zoom in and out of the screen. Scrolling can be done by bending the phone from the corners.<br /><br /><br />So, what are the pros and cons of this technology? Firstly, since there’s physical movement involved, you can actually use the device without looking at it. Secondly, it’s not restricted to your fingers only; it recognizes touch through gloves as well. Asus and Acer tablets to Launch Ice Cream Sandwich soon

History Of Diwali

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><h3>What is Diwali ?</h3>The word "Diwali" is a contraction of "Deepavali", originating from the Sanskrit word <i>Dīpāvalī</i> (दीपावली) which can be translated to "Row of Lights". Hence the Diwali Festival is also called the "<b>Festival of Lights</b>". Diwali is the name for the festival in North-India. In South-India the festival is called "Deepavali".<br /><h3>About Diwali</h3><a href="http://www.gtustuday.in/">Diwali celebrates</a> to victory of the Good over the Evil and Light over Darkness. Is has a major religious significance for Hindus, Sikhs and Jains alike - not only in India, but also for Indians living abroad. In the western (gregorian) calendar, Diwali falls on a day in October or November every year - just after the monsoon season in India. The exact date varies and is being calculated based on the Hindu Luni-Solar calendar (according to the positions of the Sun and the Moon). The day of Diwali falls on Ashvina Amavasya (the lunar day of new moon) on 15 Ashvin (Hindu month). This date also marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year, and many businesses in India starting a new accounting year on the Diwali holiday.<br />Diwali is a festival over 5 days. On the first day (<b>Dhanteras</b>) people pray to Goddess Laxmi for prosperity and wealth. The second day (<b>Choti Diwali</b>) is also known as 'Small Diwali', 'Naraka Chaturdashi' or 'Kali Chaudas' in some states. According to the legend, Lord Kirshna killed the evil daemon Narakasura on this day. People worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Rama. The third day is the actual day of <b>Diwali</b>. Many devotees visit their Temples for worshipping Lakshmi, Goddess of beauty, wealth and wisdom with Laxmi Poojas and also pray to Ganesh, the 'Lord of Beginnings' and 'Remover of Obstacles'. When Aarti is performed, oil lamps with a cotton wick are placed on a Puja Thali and offered to the deities, praising the deity by singing wonderful Aarti songs. At night people light up little oil lamps called Diyas, Dipa Lights or Ghee Lamps and place them around their houses. They hang colorful lanterns and fairy lights, enjoying firework displays or blasting firecrackers. The forth day (<a href="http://www.gtustudy.in/"><b>Padwa</b></a>) is 1 Kartika in the Hindu calendar and is also known as Govardhan Puja or Annakoot. It is said that Krishna defeated the god of rain and the heavens Indra on that day. He lifted Mount Govardhana to save people's life from the floods. On this day people cook mountains of food resembling Mount Govardhana. According to another legend followed in South-India, Vishnu defeated the demon-king Bali on this day. Finally the fifths and last day of Diwali is called 'Bhaiduj' ('<b>Bhai Dooj</b>') also known as 'Yama Dwitiya'. This is the day for brothers and sisters to strengthen their relationships. Just like Yami prayed for her brother Yama (God of Death), sisters are praying for their brother's well-being on this day, and brothers give little gifts to their sisters in return.<br />On Diwali families gather and eating lots of foods and sweets. It is also common to send Diwali greeting cards to family members, relatives and friends. Recently however it is becoming more popular to send Diwali eCards or Diwali SMS. Diwali Mela (Fairs) take place not only in India, but in many countries in the world. Sellers of handicraft and artworks like to rent a booth on a Diwali Mela to offer their items for sale to the general public. The different locations and venues for this event can range from small community halls to the size of a whole stadium like in the case of the Diwali Mela 2011 in Dallas, Texas, USA in the Cotton Bowl Stadium (Date: Saturday, November 5th, 2011/Time: 4pm to midnight) with approx. 100,000 attendees.<br /><h3>Where is Diwali being celebrated ?</h3>Deepavali and Diwali celebrations take place in many countries in the world. There is a large population of over 30 million Indians living outside of India in overseas countries due to migration or as guest workers and students. Those 'Non-Resident Indians' (NRI) and 'Persons of Indian Origin' (PIO) play an important role in many societies and enriching the cultural diversity of whole nations. The largest groups of non-resident Indians live in the USA, Canada, Nepal, Burma, Malaysia, Singapore, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi-Arabia, South-Africa and in the United Kingdom (UK). Depending on the origin of the majority of Indians, the festival in those countries is either Diwali (most immigrants from North-India, i.e. USA/Canada/UK) or Deepavali (most immigrants from South-India such as Tamils, i.e. Malaysia/Singapore).<br /><h3>Celebrating Diwali 2011</h3>Make the <i>Diwali 2011</i> Festival of Lights a very special one - not only for your family, but also for yourself. The "Festival of Sweets, Gifts, Fireworks and Firecrackers" will be very soon, so why not starting early and planning secretly ahead of the festivities for the greatest celebration of the year?
